Google Business Profile Q&A: What to Post and How to Answer Patient Questions

Question mark bubble representing Google Business Profile Q&A section

If you scroll down on almost any Google Business Profile, there's a section called Questions & Answers sitting there quietly, half the time with nothing in it. Most clinic owners have genuinely never noticed it. That's a shame, because it's one of the few parts of your profile where anyone — not just you — can post something, and it often shows up right where people are deciding whether to call.

Here's what usually happens instead: a patient has a question ("do you take walk-ins on Sunday?"), they don't see an answer anywhere, and they just call your competitor instead who happened to already have it listed.

Anyone can ask a question. Anyone can answer it.

This catches people off guard the first time. The Q&A section isn't moderated by the business — it's public, like a mini forum attached to your listing. Which means two things: you should be checking it regularly, and you can also seed it yourself with the questions patients actually ask you every week.

Questions worth adding yourself

Think about what your front desk gets asked on the phone constantly. That's your list. For most clinics it's some version of:

You can post these as a "regular Google user" and then answer them yourself from your business account. It looks slightly odd written out like that, but it's completely standard practice and Google doesn't penalise it — plenty of legitimate businesses do exactly this.

What happens if you ignore it

Two things, both bad. First, random questions pile up unanswered, which just looks neglected to anyone scrolling through. Second — and this trips people up — other users can answer questions on your behalf, sometimes with wrong information. We've seen a clinic's Q&A section where someone incorrectly told a patient the clinic was closed on Saturdays, and it stayed there uncorrected for months.

A five-minute habit

Check the Q&A tab once a week, same time you're doing anything else on your profile. Answer anything new, thumb-down (or correct) anything wrong, and every couple of months add one fresh Q you know patients are wondering about. It's small, but it's one of those things where almost nobody does it, so doing it at all puts you ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I delete a question someone else posted on my Google Business Profile?

You can flag inappropriate or spam questions for removal, but you can't delete a genuine question just because you don't like it — better to answer it well instead.

Is it against Google's rules to post my own questions and answer them?

No, this is common practice. Just keep the questions realistic and the answers accurate — don't use it for promotional spam.

How often should I check the Q&A section?

Once a week is enough for most clinics — it rarely gets high volume, but unanswered or wrong answers sitting there for months looks bad.

Does the Q&A section affect Google Maps ranking?

It's not a major ranking factor on its own, but an active, accurate profile overall tends to be treated more favourably, and it directly helps conversion once someone finds you.
